Hey guys! I recently had the opportunity to try out three new brushes that Makeup Geek released not long ago and I wanted to share my thoughts on these brushes with you! There are some products that I don’t need to test long before I know if I’m going to like them or not but I like to test brushes out for quite a while to see how they perform before I come to a final conclusion on them. I’ve had these new Makeup Geek brushes for a few weeks now and have used each of them many times so I feel like I can finally give you guys a solid review. These brushes are all synthetic and cruelty free so no need to worry about our furry little friends!
Makeup Geek Chiseled Cheek Brush
First up we have the Makeup Geek Chiseled Cheek Brush! This brush is designed to help you perfectly carve out your cheek bones to add depth an definition to your face.
This brush, like all the others, is super soft and feels great on your face.
Here is the Makeup Geek Chiseled Cheek Brush next to a similar Sonia Kashuk brush that I don’t believe is being sold any longer. The Makeup Geek brush is far softer and glides more easily over the skin creating a perfectly smooth line while its Sonia Kashuk counterpart tends to drag a little more and can sometimes leave faint brush lines that are difficult to get rid of completely.
This brush also has a bit of extra room in the ferrule like the Makeup Geek Dual Ended Brow Brush but I honestly don’t really see it as much of an issue in this brush. I feel like the room allows the bristles to sway a little more to create a very smooth, fluid line rather than one super sharp streak down your face.
Makeup Geek Dual-Ended Brow Brush
I initially had high hopes for the Makeup Geek Dual Ended Brow Brush but quickly realized that this brow brush is not for me after using it a few times. This brush just didn’t seem to pick up and disperse color as I had hoped.
My two favorite brow brushes, the Anastasia #12 brush and the Make Up For Ever #274 brush are cut very bluntly at the tip. They’re angled, of course, but blunt. The Makeup Geek Dual Ended Brow Brush seems to be more thin and tapered as you near the tip and I suspect this is why it isn’t picking up and distributing product as I would have liked.
This may not be a bad choice if you’re aiming to only fill in slight patchiness in your brows or are going for a very a natural brow look but I prefer the definition that my other two brow brushes offer.
Here is the Makeup Geek Dual Ended Brow Brush next to the Anastasia #12 brush and the Make Up For Ever #274 brush for reference. You can see how blunt the other two brushes are while the Makeup Geek Brush tapers off and becomes thinner towards the top.
Also, as you can see, there is quite a bit of extra space in the ferrule of the Makeup Geek Dual Ended Brow Brush which, paired with the slightly longer bristles, tends to make it a bit floppy. Despite the extra room you see here, the bristles are actually very solidly in place though. I tugged rather firmly on the bristles several times and not a single bristle came loose.
This is me doing the same test with the Anastasia #12 brush and as you can see, there no extra room here!
Makeup Geek Defined Crease Brush
The Makeup Geek Defined Crease brush is seriously the brush of my dreams and has very quickly worked its way onto my list of my all time favorite brushes. Despite my collection of approximately 100 brushes, I don’t have another quite like this. I’d describe it as a somewhere in between your standard crease brush and a pencil brush.
Its small size is reminiscent of a pencil brush but the perfectly tapered, fluffy top applies and blends shadows in a much more diffused way than a pencil brush would, while still maintaining definition.
The Defined Crease brush is absolutely perfect for adding definition to your crease without laying down color on too large of a space, as larger crease brushes often do. This brush both applies and blends shadows effortlessly and is oh so soft and gentle on the lids. Unlike the other two brushes which have a bit of extra room in the ferrule, the bristles on the brush are packed perfectly tightly into the ferrule with no extra space.
In addition to using this brush for my crease and outer v area, I also absolutely love using it to apply shadows to my lower lash line for a blown out look.
Here we have the Makeup Geek Defined Crease Brush, the Makeup Addiction Cosmetics Crease Blender (also a great brush but clearly much larger) and the Coastal Scents Classic Blender Crease Natural Brush so that you can get an idea of the size.
If you have any plans for future Makeup Geek orders, I’d highly recommend adding the Defined Crease Brush to your list of must-haves! You won’t regret it!
